S. Korea speeds up US missile defence over North's missile test

North Korea's latest intercontinental ballistic missile test has prompted the South to speed up the deployment of a US missile defence system, Seoul's defence minister said Saturday, despite strong protests from China.
The US military will also roll out "strategic assets" to the South following the North's missile test late Friday, Song Young-Moo said.
Parts of the THAAD defence system were brought into the country under the government of ousted president Park Geun-Hye, but new leader Moon Jae-In suspended deployment of the programme last month, citing the need for a new environmental impact assessment.
"We will soon start consultations on the tentative deployment" of the remaining components of the THAAD battery in response to Pyongyang's most recent test, the defence minister told journalists.
The THAAD battery comprises six interceptor missile launchers. Two launchers have been tentatively deployed at a golf course-turned-US military base in Seongju County, 300 kilometres (187.5 miles) south of Seoul.
The THAAD deployment has infuriated China, which has long argued it will destabilise the region.
"China expresses serious concern about the actions of the Republic of Korea," Beijing's ministry of foreign affairs said in a statement Saturday.
"China's resolute opposition to the deployment by the USA of the THAAD system in South Korea is consistent and clear. The THAAD system deployment cannot solve South Korea's security concerns, neither can it solve the problems facing the Korean peninsula.
"It will only make these problems more complicated."
The North's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) ran a statement late Saturday warning of a "miserable fate" for the South's government if it persists with the scheme, in a typically bellicose piece railing against THAAD.
Seoul's defence minister did not provide details on the "strategic assets" the US planned to send to the Korean peninsula and the surrounding area.
The phrase normally refers to high-profile weapons systems, such as stealth bombers and aircraft carriers.
The South's defence ministry also released a video of a newly developed ballistic missile which it said was one of the world's "most accurate and powerful" weapons and capable of striking "any target in the North at any time and any place".

Sharon Hoffman
Sharon Hoffman I was married for a short while to a very accomplished musician, we lived in New York City while he was going to school at Juilliard. He was a drummer/timpanist and played for bands like Jefferson Airplanes, and the Grateful Dead. His mentors were Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson, and Saul Goodman who was a Timpanist for the New York Philharmonic. He was good friends with and played alongside Micky Hart, who was a longstanding drummer for Grateful Dead. I can tell you the good ones, get up very, very early to practice, practice, and practice some more before a concert. They work hard at their craft to bring us some of the finest music ears have ever heard on this side of heaven. One of my favorite guitarist today is Joe Satriani. Sad to hear about Gregg Allman... we're losing so many of our great singers and great musicians. But what a tragic waste if you master your craft to win the world, but in the end you lose your soul. I hope before he made his exit out of this life, he got his heart and soul right with Jesus.

Kenny L. Cobb Jr.
Kenny L. Cobb Jr. As a musician - guitarist, we keep on loosing the great legendary artist. Today, no matter what musical genre artist today cannot and would not be able to make music in the raw fashion of the way these Legends did. Autotune and digital media have ruined the artform of music in so many ways.
Today, there's way too much musical "make-up" being used.
For people here on this thread commenting the way they are, they are not showing the respect, most of you people here know absolutely nothing about the artform of music the way us who are musicians do. If you really did, you'd show respect for the man no matter what. Most of you don't even know what a crescendo or a lyric tag is. Most of you wouldn't know what a falsetto or a chord rift is. Most of you wouldn't even know what a 3/4th drum beat is.

Gordon Green
Gordon Green Where are the men and women of today who think and breathe and walk like John Fitzgerald Kennedy? What has happened to the Democratic beliefs and values that at one time was embraced and held in esteem and respect by all Americans regardless of where you came from and what you started with: If men like Martin Luther King Jr and John Kennedy were alive today I would venture to say they would be greatly saddened and discouraged by the rhetoric and the incivility, the harshness and the lack of decency for our brothers and sisters who all aspire to live a better life and provide one for those coming up behind us. We have become a very uncivil and violent society who prey upon those less fortunate than ourselves. We have truly forgotten how this country was founded: By God's grace and blessing. I would be remiss if I did not say that like God in his grace and mercy has blessed this country far more than it deserves...he can also remove his grace and mercy, he can remove his protective covering and leave us exposed to the frailities of life. As a warning to all who have ears to hear... that day of reckoning is coming...and it is coming sooner than you expect....it is coming when you don't expect it. That my friend...you need to prepare, watch and be ready.

With North Korea reportedly testing its first intercontinental ballistic missile last week, experts say the chances of a nuclear war are at the highest in decades.
In the event of a nuclear attack, the safest way to shield yourself from deadly fallout is to find cover in an underground bunker or under several layers of lead.
Those heading to cover will need an emergency kit to last 48 hours after the initial blast, when the chances of radiation poisoning from fallout are at their greatest.
Now, one radiation expert has revealed the vital emergency supplies you should grab to survive the moments after a nuclear blast.

THE PERFECT EMERGENCY KIT
The following kit should help survivors last the initial 48 hours after a nuclear explosion.
This initial period is when the chances of radiation poisoning are at their highest.
1) A radio, preferably hand-cranked, to receive emergency broadcasts
2) Water, ideally 1 gallon per person per day, for drinking and sanitation
3) A breakfast bar or two to stave off the hunger
4) Any essential medications or treatments you might need.
The kit should only be prioritised if it does not delay your journey to shelter by more than two minutes, to minimise radiation exposure.
If a full emergency kit is not at hand, Brooke Buddemeier, a health physicist and expert on radiation at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, recommends grabbing four essential items.
He says that the kit should only be prioritised if it does not delay your journey to shelter by more than two minutes, to minimise radiation exposure.
The most important item is a radio, he told Business Insider, ideally a hand-cranked one with a USB port that can charge other devices.
'If you have a cellphone, that'll work too,' he said.
Mr Buddemeier said a radio is better than a mobile phone because 'sometimes the cell towers may be affected', either by power outages or demand.
Radios are important, he said, because you will need to receive emergency broadcasts and instructions.
Second, Mr Buddemeier said, you'll need water - ideally 1 gallon per person per day to drink, as well as to rinse off radioactive fallout after removing your clothes.

For the third most-important item, Mr Buddemeier said: 'I would probably grab a breakfast bar or two to stave off the hunger a little bit.'
Fourth, he said to grab any essential medications or treatments you might need.
The main thing Mr Buddemeier recommended not to do is grab unnecessary items in the immediate fallout, as this will expose you to too much dangerous radiation.

The fallout will damage your cells, making it harder for your body to heal, leading to a condition called acute radiation syndrome or sickness.
'It also affects the immune system and your ability to fight infections,' Mr Buddemeier said.
He said that if people could find good shelters - and are able to receive broadcast instructions from emergency personnel - the blow of a nuclear attack could be softened.
'We may not be able to do much about the blast casualties, because where you were is where you were, and you can't really change that,' he told Business Insider.
'But fallout casualties are entirely preventable.
'In a large city ... knowing what to do after an event like this can literally save hundreds of thousands of people from radiation illness or fatalities.'
Mr Buddemeier is not the first person to publish a list of vital items in the event of a nuclear attack.
The US Federal Emergency Management Agency has previously given its own recommended stock list for getting through nuclear blasts, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, power outages, and other take-shelter emergencies.
The agency lists water - 1 gallon per person per day for at least three days - as its most important item, and puts a three-day supply of nonperishable food at second.
A battery-powered or hand-crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert and extra batteries for both come next, as well as a flashlight and extra batteries and first-aid kit.

DONALD TRUMP ONLY HAS 4 YEARS
My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge. Hosea 4:6
God raised up Donald Trump for such a time as this. Slightly delaying the New World Order, God has shown plenteous mercy with this nation. But make no mistake about it, judgement will come. Many are focused on this year being 5777 and the significance of Donald Trump's age at inauguration. Also the Revelation 12 sign in September which happens just after the year 5778 commences on the Jewish calendar. Though I do see significance in all of this, let us also consider this, Israel was reborn in 1948 and 70 years will be complete next year, while Jerusalem was reclaimed in 1967 and this year marks the jubilee. In Psalm 90 the Bible talks about a generation being 70 years and by reason of strength 80 years. Now Jesus said that this generation shall not pass till all these things be fulfilled (tribulation period). This final generation was kicked off in 1948, that is clear. Next year is 70 years which now leaves us with the year 2028 to most likely close out this generation before God reigns. 2028-7 is 2021.Therefore enjoy Donald Trump while he is in office, he won't be there another four years. This is the last TrumpPence. God is showing us something. Between now and 2021 it is VERY possible that the Rapture will take place. And if that's true, what are you going to do with this time? Maranatha!!

The Global Elite Crime Syndicate, those who put light for darkness and darkness for light, rich and poor, bond or free. "Do what thou wilt" is the satanic philosophy flooding this world today. But one day, Every knee shall bow and EVERY tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. Just let that sink in, for it will be in your mouth as honey but turn to bitterness in the belly, knowing the judgement that awaits the doers of evil. It should light a fire under us to labor the more in love for the lost. For right now, they think they are winning the war. But how oh how the god of this world hath blinded their minds!
Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Psalm 2 Joshua S Dunn I disagree with you about the men before us, I believe 99.9% of them were evil, speaking of the ones running and creating the government, like ben franklins & friends , all the wars past present and future were to only move a hidden agenda, the flag is not what they say it is , the lies we were taught in school are so far off, The false pretense of God first has been the lie with the constitution , and all that, it was all done to separate and use against eachother, its so deep and the lies are so entangled , its to much to post, I do appreciate your page here and on YouTube, I pray I haven't offended but maybe stirred up a little , in Jesus the Christ be blessed.

Ask an Expert: Snakes out Earlier This Year - Eight Things You Should Know
Snakes Out Earlier This YearUnseasonably warm temperatures this year have caused snakes to emerge early from hibernation. So be aware that just because you didn’t encounter a snake on your outdoor adventure last spring at this time doesn’t mean you won’t this spring.
Utah is home to 31 species of snakes. Of these, only seven are venomous and are commonly called pit vipers because of the pit located between their nostrils and eyes. Most pit vipers found in Utah have tails with a series of rattles, hence the name rattlesnake. The venomous snake species in Utah includes the sidewinder, speckled rattlesnake, Mojave rattlesnake, Western rattlesnake, Hopi rattlesnake, midget-faded rattlesnake and the Great Basin rattlesnake. The most commonly encountered of these is the Western rattlesnake.
Because most snakes in Utah are non-venomous, most human-snake encounters are generally not dangerous. However, if you encounter a venomous snake and are bitten, the consequences could be serious, so it is important to know the difference between venomous and non-venomous snakes. Consider this information.
* If you encounter a snake, your best strategy is to leave it alone. Every year, hundreds of want-to-be herpetologists and snake charmers are bitten when they try to capture or kill a snake. Even dead snakes have been known to bite by reflex action. More than 7,000 venomous snakebites are reported every year in the United States. Of these, between nine and 15 are fatal. More than half of the reported bites were a result of someone trying to handle or kill the snake. It is always best to leave the area if you encounter a venomous snake. This will greatly reduce your risk of being bitten.
* As a general rule, poisonous snakes have elliptical pupils and a single row of scales on the underside of the tail. Non-poisonous snakes have round pupils and two rows of scales on the underside of the tail.
* When rattlesnakes are encountered or disturbed, the rapid vibration of their tails will make a characteristic rattling sound to warn the intruder of their presence. However, not all rattlesnakes will “rattle” when disturbed. For this reason, when you are in rattlesnake country, you must pay close attention to where you walk, sit and place your hands. Rattlesnakes can be found throughout Utah in sagebrush, pinyon-juniper woodlands, sand dunes, rocky hillsides, grasslands and mountain forests. They occur at elevations that range from sea level to timberline.
* If you hear a rattlesnake “rattle,” stand still until you can locate where the sound is coming from. Do not try to jump or run. If you do, you may end up within the snake’s striking range.
* Snakes are classified as non-game animals and are protected by Utah state laws. A person cannot collect or possess a live wild snake without receiving a Certificate of Registration from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. When there are human, domestic pet and livestock safety concerns, a venomous snake may be killed without a certificate.
* Non-venomous snakebites are harmless. The only concern may be for potential infection. If bitten, clean and sterilize the wound much like you would a cut or abrasion. Bites from venomous snakes will almost instantly show signs of swelling and discoloration of the surrounding tissue. Other symptoms include a tingling sensation, nausea, rapid pulse, loss of muscle coordination and weakness. Also, bites from rattlesnakes will show two characteristic fang marks (punctures) as well as other teeth marks.
* If someone has been bitten by a venomous snake, there are several things that should not be done. Do not allow the person to engage in physical activity such as walking or running. Carry the person if he or she needs to be moved. Do not apply a tourniquet to the area above the wound, and do not apply a cold compress to the bite area. Do not cut into the bite. Do not give the victim stimulants or pain medications unless instructed by a physician, and do not give the victim anything by mouth. Do not raise the bite area above the level of the heart, and do not try to suction the venom, as doing so may cause more harm than good.
* All venomous snakebites should be considered life threatening. When someone has been bitten by a venomous snake, time is of the essence. If possible, call ahead to the emergency room so anti-venom can be ready when the victim arrives. Until then, keep the victim calm, restrict movement and keep the affected area below heart level to reduce the flow of venom. Wash the bite area with soap and water. Remove any rings or constricting items, as the affected area will swell. Cover the bite with clean, moist dressing to reduce swelling and discomfort. Monitor the victim’s vital signs (pulse, temperature, breathing, blood pressure). If there are signs of shock, lay the victim flat and cover with a warm blanket. Get medical help immediately. Bring the dead snake in for identification if this can be done without further risk of injury.

Here we go again: Another attack with a cute name is about to make the news. More dangerous than a Ghost, a POODLE, a FREAK, a Heartbleed, a Shellshock or the other 6,000-plus attacks that show up each year, we know at least two things about it:
It will probably attack through a vulnerable open source component.
It is highly likely you’ll find the open source component in your apps.

Addressing the Open Source Challenge
Should you stop your developers from using open source? You can’t — at least if you want them to be productive. In fact, more and more software is reliant on open source components than ever before. The Forrester report titled “Secure Applications at the Speed of DevOps” states that “approximately 80 to 90 percent of the code in modern applications is from open source components.”
Clearly, open source is here to stay. To protect yourself, you must proactively test your code to assure that you don’t have vulnerable libraries. And since it’s extremely likely that your organization is vulnerable in some fashion, you should focus on two specific success factors.
Success Factor One: Integrate Open Source Testing Into DevOps
The single most important thing you can do is be aware of the open source packages that your developers use, and specifically which ones have vulnerabilities that can be exploited. It is critical that this review be performed as early in the development cycle as possible and that it be done continuously, since threats are constantly changing.
Forrester specifically recommended the following: “Insert a software composition analysis (SCA) tool as early in the SDLC as possible and continue to scan applications, including older applications with inconsistent or long release cycles, to ferret out newly discovered vulnerabilities.” The best way to do this is to integrate open source discovery directly into the application security testing that you are already doing — making it an essential part of your DevOps strategy.
IBM has made this process easy and transparent. With introduction of IBM Application Security Open Source Analyzer, part of IBM Application Security on Cloud, identifying open source components occurs automatically during static application security testing (SAST). These components are matched against a list of known vulnerabilities and results are returned. The results are not only actionable, but they also include specific remediation recommendations such as substituting more recent versions of the components. Results are directly integrated into reports that contain identification and remediation of vulnerabilities found in your custom code, creating a seamless adoption and use model that best enables your success.

Figure 3: Clicking on the Fix Group shows vulnerability types (in this case, open source CVE), descriptions and links to recommended fixes.
Success Factor Two: Use the Most Reliable Source to Detect Open Source Vulnerabilities
Of course, no matter how seamless the integration is, it boils down to the quality of your testing results. Quality depends on a number of factors — most notably the completeness, breadth, depth and currency of known vulnerabilities and remediation recommendations.
IBM Application Security Open Source Analyzer is able to generate a comprehensive set of open source packages for evaluation by analyzing the file level during application code analysis. Those files are then compared with known open source vulnerabilities and vulnerable ones are identified, along with specific remediation advice.
The quality of IBM Application Security Open Source Analyzer data is differentiated in several important ways. The solution:
Supports a large number of languages: Open Source Analyzer does not merely work on a small set of languages like other solutions do. It supports a very large set, including Java, .NET, JavaScript, PHP, Node.JS, C/C++, Ruby, Python, ObjectiveC, SWIFT, Go, Scala, Clojure, Groovy, Android, Perl and Pascal.
Identifies a huge set of open source libraries: Across these languages, Open Source Analyzer understands more than 3.5 million binary components and nearly a half billion nonbinary source libraries.
Leverages a database of more than 230,000 vulnerabilities from public and private sources: IBM Application Security Open Source Analyzer has access to 12 different sources, in addition to the commonly used National Vulnerability Database (NVD). By comparison, it is estimated NVD includes fewer than 10,000 identified open source vulnerabilities. The Open Source Analyzer database is continually updated with thousands of newly discovered vulnerabilities added each month.
Provides actionable remediation recommendations: Our offering combines information from nearly a dozen authoritative sources, including research from the IBM X-Force team, links to patches, specific source files and newer versions that fix issues.
Peace of Mind With Application Security Testing
Embarking on a program to test your open source exposure level is the easiest and fastest way to increase your application security posture — not to mention keep your name out of the press the next time that a cute attack (or an acute attack) threatens to tarnish your organization’s good name.
Our advice is to access our complimentary trial of IBM Application Security on Cloud featuring Open Source Analyzer today, and see for yourself how easy it is to obtain the peace of mind you desire.

The nine countries with nuclear weapons boycotted the talks.
This article originally appeared on VICE News.
Over 120 countries adopted the United Nations' first-ever global ban on nuclear weapons Friday, in a significant milestone in the push against nuclear proliferation. Except for one thing: None of the countries that actually have nuclear weapons adopted the treaty, so it doesn't technically apply to them.
The ban, formally known as the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, was officially adopted after months of negotiations by the UN General Assembly, with the Friday vote: 122 countries voted yes; one — the Netherlands — voted no; and one — Singapore — abstained. Among those voting yes was Iran, which reached a historic diplomatic accord in 2015 with the US and five other world powers curbing Tehran's ability to acquire a nuclear weapon.
The treaty explicitly says countries cannot "develop, test, produce, manufacture, otherwise acquire, possess, or stockpile nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices."
Yet every one of the nine countries that have nuclear weapons — the United States, Russia, Britain, China, France, India, Pakistan, North Korea, and Israel — boycotted the talks.
"To ban nuclear weapons now would make us and our allies more vulnerable, and would strengthen bad actors like North Korea and Iran who would not abide by it," Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the UN, told reporters at the outset of negotiations for the treaty in March.
"There is nothing I want more for my family than a world with no nuclear weapons. But we have to be realistic," Haley said.
Still, the treaty serves as a symbolic and legal marker against using nuclear weapons in international warfare, Elayne Whyte Gomez, Costa Rica's ambassador to the UN and president of the conference that negotiated the ban told reporters Thursday.
"The world has been waiting for this legal norm for 70 years," said Whyte Gomez, referring to the nuclear bombs the US dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 during World War II.
Earlier this week, tensions between the US and North Korea markedly escalated after Pyongyang conducted its first successful test of an intercontinental ballistic missile. President Trump called on the international community "to confront this global threat and publicly demonstrate to North Korea that there are consequences for their very, very bad behavior."
The Kingdom of Heaven is available to every man, woman, boy, and girl in this world, no matter who they are, where they live, or what they have done. It is freely offered to any and all who will receive it. Simply learn of Jesus (Yeshua), the promised Messiah, invite Him into your life as Lord, believe He died on the Cross for all of your sins and rose from the grave (proving there is a Kingdom of Heaven ... and a coming resurrection for both those who are going to Heaven and for those who are going to Hell). Learn of Him and believe in Him . . . for He was the only one who has ever loved you enough to substitute Himself for you on the Cross (which represents Hell). He shed His blood, suffered, and died on the Cross to save you from your sins and from the utter darkness, aloneness, and torment of Hell, if you will accept it, believe it, and trust in it. That is why Jesus is called Savior. He now lovingly and graciously offers you life in Heaven (and we are warned it is a "take it or leave it" proposition.) We have to consciously receive it and accept it in faith. If you sincerely admit you have sinned (and need a Savior to get into Heaven) and fully trust in Him alone to save you from your sins and from Hell ... and turn away ("repent") from those things God says are wrong and turn back to God, you will go to Heaven ... and with open arms and tears of joy He will receive all who will come to Him in faith and in love ... It's God's Promise!!!
The only unpardonable sin is to reject (or ignore) God's love and His free offer of eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven by rejecting His Son ... Jesus Christ (Yeshua Ha'Mashiach in Hebrew) ... who stepped forth from Eternity ("from of old, from everlasting"... see Micah 5:2) ... not to condemn the sinner, but to save the sinner (from the torment of Hell) and who willingly and lovingly shed His blood and bore all of our sins and guilt on the Cross so we can be "washed clean" and forgiven of all our sins. The Bible warns there will be no peace in our hearts or minds until we make peace with God through His Son, Jesus (Yeshua), the promised Messiah.
The Bible also warns clearly there will be no peace in Israel or on Earth until Jesus (Yeshua), the Messiah returns . . .
Grace and Shalom!

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The United States cautioned on Wednesday it was ready to use force if need be to stop North Korea's nuclear missile program but said it preferred global diplomatic action against Pyongyang for defying world powers by test launching a ballistic missile that could hit Alaska.
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley told a meeting of the U.N. Security Council that North Korea's actions were "quickly closing off the possibility of a diplomatic solution" and the United States was prepared to defend itself and its allies.
"One of our capabilities lies with our considerable military forces. We will use them if we must, but we prefer not to have to go in that direction," Haley said. She urged China, North Korea's only major ally, to do more to rein in Pyongyang.
Taking a major step in its missile program, North Korea on Tuesday test launched an intercontinental ballistic missile that some experts believe has the range to reach the U.S. states of Alaska and Hawaii and perhaps the U.S. Pacific Northwest.
North Korea says the missile could carry a large nuclear warhead.
The missile test is a direct challenge to U.S. President Donald Trump, who has vowed to prevent North Korea from being able to hit the United States with a nuclear missile.
He has frequently urged China to press the isolated country's leadership to give up its nuclear program.
Haley said the United States would propose new U.N. sanctions on North Korea in coming days and warned that
if Russia and China did not support the move, then “we will go our own path.”
She did not give details on what sanctions would be proposed, but outlined possible options.
"The international community can cut off the major sources of hard currency to the North Korean regime. We can restrict the flow of oil to their military and their weapons programs. We can increase air and maritime restrictions. We can hold senior regime officials accountable," Haley said.
Diplomats say Beijing has not been fully enforcing existing international sanctions on its neighbor and has resisted tougher measures, such as an oil embargo, bans on the North Korean airline and guest workers, and measures against Chinese banks and other firms doing business with the North.
“Much of the burden of enforcing U.N. sanctions rests with China,” Haley said.
The United States might seek to take unilateral action and sanction more Chinese companies that do business with North Korea, especially banks, U.S. officials have said.
China's U.N. ambassador, Liu Jieyi, told the Security Council meeting that the missile launch was a "flagrant violation" of U.N. resolutions and "unacceptable."
"We call on all the parties concerned to exercise restraint, avoid provocative actions and belligerent rhetoric, demonstrate the will for unconditional dialogue and work actively together to defuse the tension," Liu said.
TENSIONS WITH U.S.
The United States has remained technically at war with North Korea since the 1950-53 Korean conflict ended in an armistice rather than a peace treaty and the past six decades have been punctuated by periodic rises in antagonism and rhetoric that have always stopped short of a resumption of active hostilities.
Tensions have risen sharply after North Korea conducted two nuclear weapons tests last year and carried out a steady stream of ballistic missile tests
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said the ICBM test completed his country's strategic weapons capability that includes atomic and hydrogen bombs, the state KCNA news agency said.
Pyongyang will not negotiate with the United States to give up those weapons until Washington abandons its hostile policy against the North, KCNA quoted Kim as saying.
"He, with a broad smile on his face, told officials, scientists and technicians that the U.S. would be displeased ... as it was given a 'package of gifts' on its 'Independence Day,'" KCNA said, referring to the missile launch on July 4.
Trump and other leaders from the Group of 20 nations meeting in Germany this week are due to discuss steps to rein in North Korea's weapons program, which it has pursued in defiance of Security Council sanctions.
Russia's deputy U.N. envoy said on Wednesday that military force should not be considered against North Korea and called for a halt to the deployment of a U.S. missile defense system in South Korea.
He also said that attempts to strangle North Korea economically were "unacceptable" and that sanctions would not resolve the issue.
The U.S. military assured Americans that it was capable of defending the United States against a North Korean ICBM.
Pentagon spokesman Navy Captain Jeff Davis noted a successful test last month in which a U.S.-based missile interceptor knocked down a simulated incoming North Korean ICBM.
"So we do have confidence in our ability to defend against the limited threat, the nascent threat that is there," he told reporters. He acknowledged though that previous U.S. missile defense tests had shown "mixed results."
The North Korean launch this week was both earlier and "far more successful than expected," said U.S.-based missile expert John Schilling, a contributor to Washington-based North Korea monitoring project 38 North.
It would now probably only be a year or two before a North Korean ICBM achieved "minimal operational capability," he added.
Schilling said the U.S. national missile defense system was "only minimally operational" and would take more than two years to upgrade to provide more reliable defense.

1 Corinthians 1:18 (ESV) 18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
"We preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God." Therefore, the power of God in 2:5 in which our faith should rest is the divine power unleashed by the death of Christ to save sinners, to justify the ungodly. When Jesus was at his weakest in the agony of the cross, God's power was at its strongest, lifting the infinite weight of sin and condemnation off the backs of all who would believe on him. Because Jesus died and bore the punishment of our sin, all the power of God, who created the universe, was loosed for the benefit of God's elect.

Mark Zuckerberg wants Facebook users to be like church pastors

Mark Zuckerberg believes people can find a sense of purpose and support from Facebook
Mark Zuckerberg believes people can find a sense of purpose and support from Facebook

Mark Zuckerberg says he wants Facebook users to start playing a similar role to pastors in churches.
He recently announced a new mission for the social network, which is set to focus on growing groups and communities to “bring the world closer together”.
He believes the site can be used to unite what he sees as a “divided” society, and make users feel like they are “part of something bigger”.
Facebook has been using artificial intelligence to recommend groups to users, and Mr Zuckerberg says the approach led to a 50 per cent increase in people joining them, within six months.
However, while the site has almost two billion users, Mr Zuckerberg says “only” 100 million of them are currently part of “meaningful communities”. He wants that figure to rise to a billion.
“If we can do this, it will not only turn around the whole decline in community membership we've seen for decades, it will start to strengthen our social fabric and bring the world closer together,” he said.
“As I've travelled around and learned about different places, one theme is clear: every great community has great leaders. Think about it. A church doesn't just come together. It has a pastor who cares for the well-being of their congregation, makes sure they have food and shelter.”
He added, “Leaders set the culture, inspire us, give us a safety net, and look out for us.”
He singled out a number of administrators for praise, including the leader of a support group for women and the leader of a locksmith group.
“Communities give us that sense that we are part of something bigger than ourselves, that we are not alone, that we have something better ahead to work for,” he said.
“We all get meaning from our communities. Whether they're churches, sports teams, or neighbourhood groups, they give us the strength to expand our horizons and care about broader issues. Studies have proven the more connected we are, the happier we feel and the healthier we are.
“People who go to church are more likely to volunteer and give to charity -- not just because they're religious, but because they're part of a community.
“That's why it's so striking that for decades, membership in all kinds of groups has declined as much as one-quarter. That's a lot of people who now need to find a sense of purpose and support somewhere else.”

YUMA, Ariz. — A solar-powered drone backed by Facebook that could one day provide worldwide internet access has quietly completed a test flight in Arizona after an earlier attempt ended with a crash landing.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s long-term plan for the drone, called Aquila, is to have it and others provide internet access to 4 billion people around the world who are currently in the dark.
“When Aquila is ready, it will be a fleet of solar-powered planes that will beam internet connectivity across the world,” he wrote Thursday on Facebook.
The drone’s second flight was completed in May at Yuma Proving Ground, The Yuma Sun reported.
The drone flew with more sensors, new spoilers and a horizontal propeller stopping system to help it better land after the crash in December. It was in the air for an hour and 46 minutes and elevated 3,000 feet (910 meters).
The drone flew with the engineering team watching a live stream from a helicopter chasing the drone, said Martin Luis Gomez, Facebook’s director of aeronautical platforms.
The team was thrilled with the outcome, Gomez said.
“The improvements we implemented based on Aquila’s performance during its first test flight made a significant difference in this flight,” he said.
The drone weighs about 1,000 pounds (450 kilograms) and has a longer wingspan than a Boeing 747.
The drone runs mostly on autopilot, but there are manned ground crews to manage certain maneuvers.
“We successfully gathered a lot of data to help us optimize Aquila’s efficiency,” Zuckerberg said. “No one has ever built an unmanned airplane that will fly for months at a time, so we need to tune every detail to get this right.”
